It is a known fact that air travel companies have different charging policies. There are assumptions, but nobody knows for sure what is the exact logic behind the fact that you can get cheap plane tickets in Paris but not in L.A. or why today the price is twice as much as 3 weeks from now. Probably because each company has its own methods to establish the price and they change it very often. So how can you get a better price for your airplane tickets?
After asking around, trying different ways, different websites, different airline companies and read through hundreds of their “Terms and conditions” pages we got to a conclusion. These are 4 steps on how to get a better price for your plane ticket.
1. When to “hunt” for airplane tickets
Apparently, the best time for going online and try to book an airplane ticket is usually Thursday evening. When I say evening, I mean after working hours. Avoid buying between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, because these are working hours in most of the countries. In this timeframe, the companies usually book plane tickets for business trips so the prices go higher. Also don’t look for flights on Monday and Friday as in these days the demand is very high because a lot of expats are coming or leaving work.
2. Where and how to look
Going directly on the airplane company’s website is not always a good idea. Try websites that offer you alternatives from more companies so you can compare the prices. Golden rule: make sure that you use your “Incognito” browser mode (CTRL+N in your regular browser session). Why? Because in “Incognito” mode the browser doesn’t save the cookies, so the visited website will think that you are there for the first time. If they detect that you already searched for that flight route several times they will know you are interested and you need to get there. So guess what? They will add overnight some extra bucks to the price.
3. What to use when you book airplane tickets
Some might say that this is Science Fiction already, but guess what? They are able to detect your laptop/computer type as well. So if you shop from the latest, most expensive Macbook or smartphone on the market, it means you have money. Money for a more expensive ticket. Try maybe using an Internet Cafe computer (if you can still find one) or some old, rusty laptop from the office.
4. From which country to buy
The same principle as for laptops is applied for countries. If you book from Germany, USA, Japan or another wealthy country you will most probably be forced to pay more. This is because, with no offense for the others, these countries are considered to have a higher living standard so people are supposed to earn more. To avoid this do the following:
- go online and Google for “free proxy website”;
- any website on the first page will do;
- once on that website try different proxy locations for countries like Colombia, Mexico or some country from Africa, as these countries are considered to have a lower living standard. Keep trying till you get the lowest price.
When you do this don’t forget about the first step of this guide – the moment of booking must be outside working hours, but be careful, if you are in Denmark and it’s 9:00 PM for you and you are using a Mexico proxy, in Mexico, it is 2:00 PM, so during 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM interval.
As a short recap on how to get cheap plane tickets:
- Outside 8:00 AM- 7:00 PM interval and not on Mondays and Fridays;
- Use comparison websites in “Incognito” mode;
- Don’t use the latest generation of laptop or mobile phone;
- Use proxies to change your location.
