Except for the case when you have your own private gym, a gym is a public place. Like in any other public place, there are certain rules of conduct you need to follow. Unfortunately, some people fail miserably when it comes to doing or not doing simple things that will annoy everyone around them. Don’t be that guy everyone avoids or talks about behind his back. a. Don’t wear makeup in excess.
We start with this one because it applies mostly to women. I don’t say you don’t have to look good, but nobody wants to see all those colors on your sweaty face draining on your neck.

These rules apply mostly to men because they are the ones usually breaking them, but women also need to take them into consideration.
b. Dress properly
If you come to the gym make sure you have the “basic kit”: shorts, sports shoes, t-shirt, and most important, a towel! Nobody wants to sit on a bench full of sweat after you just finished your chest exercises.
c. Don’t scream when you do your workout
Some guys, especially the ones who believe they lift a lot of weight, tend to make loud noises. The sounds they produce makes you feel like in the Zoo. Let me share a “secret”. There are others who lift more and don’t make a sound.
d. The gym is not a place for sharing ideas
You go to the gym to workout. Ok, then do exactly that. Don’t start chatting, asking around others how was their day, where are they going to have drinks this evening or what do they think about Donald Trump’s latest bloomer. A conversation in the gym should not take longer than 30 seconds.
e. The gym is also not a studio
You go to the gym to workout. Ok, then do exactly that. The gym is not a studio for you to take selfies and mirror pictures. I know, you are all pumped up and you look like a bodybuilder and for sure everyone on Instagram wants to see it. Yet, the gym is not the place to film, photo shoot and admire yourself for hours in the mirror. Still, you can be even more annoying by saying “dude you just ruined my picture by crossing behind me”. Seriously?!?
f. Tips are not welcomed unless asked
Another gym etiquette rule sais never to give advice unless specifically asked. Don’t walk around the gym like a fitness guru telling everyone what to do and how to do it correct. If someone needs that, they will hire a coach.
g. Don’t keep the equipment busy
There is an unwritten rule when it comes to working on a certain gym equipment. If you leave your towel on it, it means it is busy and someone is working on it. All good, till you leave your towel there and start texting to your girlfriend, mother, daughter or cat. Don’t be that guy. If there is a matter of life and death and you really need to write that message right away, take your towel and leave others do their workout. Lose weight, not time.
