You’ve been going to the gym since forever or starved yourself for the past weeks and still didn’t get any visible results? You just can’t lose weight! Then you’re definitely doing something wrong. Don’t panic just yet. Most probably you do some mistakes based on things you heard from colleagues or friends. The so called “gym myths”. Let us clear things for you. Lose weight, not time.
1. If I go to gym I can eat everything
You couldn’t be more wrong. A healthy, good looking body, is the result of going to the gym (20%) and a healthy diet (80%). The truth is that you cannot compensate through sport a diet full of junk food, sweets and late night meals. Doing sport is the easy part of getting a fit body. The hard part happens in the kitchen. Read our article to learn how to keep a healthy diet.
2. You can also look like TV stars
Well, here, it all depends on your genetics. You either were born with good genetics or you didn’t. If you don’t have the best genetic inheritance, then you’ll have to get used to it. If you do, then you might hope to look like one of Victoria’s Secret top models. And even then, you might not get there. All celebrities have their own nutritionist, trainer, masseur and spend hours every day in the gym. This is part of their job, to look good. If you have a 9 to 5 job, kids and other activities in your life, you might not have the physical time for all these.
The solution is to get the best version of you. Every person has something beautiful, something sexy. Make sure you know how to highlight your qualities and have a healthy, fit body.
3. The days when you don’t go to gym are wasted
False! Going to the gym on regular basis is important. But resting is equally important. The muscles need time to recover, to rest and regenerate. Make sure you sleep enough and you provide all necessary nutrients to your body. The truth is that going to the gym nonstop could have the opposite effect. Instead of losing weight you might gain some because the body is exhausted and requires more food to compensate the lack of rest. Lose weight in a smart way!
4. If a specific training is working, don’t change it
You’ve probably heard a lot of people saying that they do the same exercises over and over again because it’s working for them. They lose weight. This is true to a certain point. Depending on your body, some exercises might provide sooner results than others, but doing the same thing over and over again will make your body get used to it. In the end, you’ll have to do so many reps just to get warmed up that it will not be worthy. The solution is to diversify the type of exercises you do so the body doesn’t have the chance to use the muscles, in the same way, each time. Alternate!
5. Cardio training is the best way to lose weight
Cardio training is just a part of the whole lose weight program. You need to combine cardio exercises with endurance and strength exercises in order to get a fit, well-proportioned body.
6. An hour of jogging is better than 20 minutes of fitness
It really doesn’t matter how much you run. What matters is how you do it. If you keep a slow, constant pace, you can run for miles. It will be worthless. The solution is to combine very intense exercises with resting times. 2-3 minutes of sprints alternated with 2-3 minutes of easy jogging.
Getting that perfect body can be hard, but it definitely pays off. Let us know what other myths about going to the gym you’ve heard and we will let you know if they are true or not. Thanks!
