In one of my previous articles, I was telling you about 5 exotic places to visit this summer. Well, I still stand by those choices and add one more to that list. Have a quick look at the next few paragraphs and pictures and convince yourself why Zanzibar island should be next on your list of exotic destinations.
Why Zanzibar island
Zanzibar is a small island on the eastern coast of Tanzania, Africa. The reasons for visiting it are many and simple. You get to see amazing views, visit a World Heritage Site (the capital city Stone Town) and a former slave market, meet nice, warm people, taste great food and enjoy a perfect weather for the most of the year. Almost every single person on the island speaks English fluently, so you will have no problem finding your way around. But wait, English is not the only language they know. Italian, French, Spanish or German are other languages they might surprise you with.
What can you visit in Zanzibar
The beauty of Zanzibar island is stunning. You can book a trip to the Prison Island, feed 190 years old giant turtles, do snorkeling around Pemba island, delight your senses at a spice farm or take a sunbath on a sandbank, in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The water has 50 shades of blue, is warm and full of colorful fishes. The best part is that you can do all these and even more for under 400$ per person. For the best prices get a local tour guide. They know the best places and have the best stories.
Other ways to spend your time could be swimming with the dolphins, watch the sunset from a catamaran, play with monkeys in the Jozany National Park or have cocktails on the beach, during the Fullmoon Festival.
You can get to Zanzibar by plane or boat. Once on the island, moving around can be difficult because of the poor infrastructure. But there is no reason to worry. Just hire a private driver. The prices are affordable especially if you are a group of 3-4 persons. Also, if you book trips around the island, transportation is included. Of course, you have the option to travel with the Dala Dala, the local public transportation system. Yet, I never saw a tourist using such buses. Once you see them, you will understand why.
You can find very nice apartments and rooms at very affordable prices. Depending on your preferences you can rent a very nice, clean, ocean view room for 2, starting from less than 30$/night. My recommendation though is to book a full stay with one of the 5 stars resorts on the island. It will cost you a few hundreds USD, true, but you will be spoiled with excellent services.
My personal favorite was Sea Cliff Resort & Spa. Been there for 10 nights and felt like paradise. The entire hotel staff is nice and always tries to satisfy your requests at best. You will also enjoy a magnificent ocean view, infinity pools, great food and a lot of ways to spend the time. Canoeing, horse riding, massages, tennis, golf or squash are just a few of them.
I hope I managed at least to make you curious about Zanzibar and what this beautiful place has to offer. Let me know what you think of it and maybe share some pictures if you ever get there. Thanks!
