With 1.2 billion people using it every month, we can say WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant message applications in the world. WhatsApp allows you to send pictures, text messages, videos or make phone calls for free. All you need is an internet connection. To make sure you have the best experience while using it, I will show you 7 tricks for WhatsApp. I hope you will find them very useful.
1. View your messages even if your phone is locked
On WhatsApp, you can receive not only an audio notification of a new message but also a preview of the message. Even if the phone is locked. Of course, if the message is to log only a fraction will be displayed. To enable this option, go to Menu -> Settings -> Notifications -> Popup Notifications -> Only when screen “off”. Simple and efficient!
2. Add a shortcut of your favorite contacts on your screen
This is one of the best tricks for WhatsApp. Unfortunately, this option is only available for Android users. Launch WhatsApp, identify the contact (group) you want to create your shortcut for and long tap on it (2-3 seconds) until a menu appears. Select Add chat shortcut and you are done. If you have more than one contact you talk to frequently, you can also add them, you are not limited to a single shortcut.
3. Change your phone number without losing your data
If you’ve changed your phone number but want to keep your conversations and WhatsApp data, enter a new SIM card and then follow the below steps.
Launch WhatsApp, enter the Menu, then Settings -> Account -> Change Number. Here enter your current phone number in the first active field and the new phone number in the second field. Verify that both numbers have been typed correctly, then click Done. And you’re done!
4. Disable the default feature for photo/video download
By default, all files attached to WhatsApp conversations are downloaded to the phone. This can cause the use of a significant amount of data (internet traffic and storage memory). If you want to limit the amount of data downloaded to your phone, you can disable this standard setting as follows: go to Menu -> Settings -> Data Usage. In the window you just reached, uncheck all existing options for all current situations. You can also choose the configuration that fits you best.
5. Mute temporarily a certain contact/group
Yes, you can basically ignore a contact or group if you feel annoyed by it. Open the app, find the contact you do not want to hear about for a while, access its options and choose View contact (Android) or Contact Info (iOS), then enable Mute. At this point, you’ll see a pop-up with three options. You can select for how long you want to ignore it: 8 hours, one week or 1 year. Do not forget to clear the Show notifications option! The Mute option is a great alternative to permanently block a contact.
6. Disable Read Receipt option
In the standard version, WhatsApp allows the sender to see if the recipient of the message reads the message. Yeah, this was a big hit for Facebook Messenger as well. A very useful thing for the person who sends the message but who can put the recipient in unpleasant situations if he doesn’t want or can not answer for some reason. So if you want those who send you messages on WhatsApp not to know if you’ve read them or not, you can disable this option. Go to Settings -> Account -> Privacy and uncheck Read receipts.
Note: Deactivating this option will also make it impossible for you, too, to have the opportunity to know if those to whom you have sent messages on WhatsApp have read it or not.
7. Disable the Last Seen option
Finally, if we’ve talked about how to hide the fact that you’ve read a message, it’s a similar action to hide the last time you were online on WhatsApp. You can turn it off in Settings -> Account -> Privacy -> Last Seen, and from the 3 available options, select Nobody.
I hope you will find these tricks for WhatsApp interesting. I will let you know more tricks in a future article. Till then let me know if these ones worked for you. Thanks!
