Since 2012, when it was launched, SuperCell’s Clash of Clans has become one of the most popular strategy games played on smartphones and tablets. As a result, in order to become one of the best, you need to use the best Clash of Clans strategies. We hope our bits of advice will improve your gaming and help you achieve more. Before we begin, I must mention that these strategies have strong and weak points, as there is no perfect scenario which can cover all possibilities. These being said let’s dig into it.
1. Clash of Clans strategies: defense
Playing the game in the last 3 years got me to the conclusion that a good defense can be the thin line between the fast development of your base and struggle for resources in order to evolve. After many attempts, I decided to use the bellow setting for my buildings and walls.
Why: As can be seen the walls are placed in circles (well rectangles, but you know what I mean). Most players use for attack units with high damage per second and acceptable hitpoints like P.E.K.K.A, Wizards or Valkyrie. These units have in common the fact that their favorite target is “Any”. They will go after the closest target in sight. Let’s take the scenario presented in the above picture: the attacker concentrates his forces in order to destroy the penetration point marked with red. Let’s assume he manages to destroy the first line of walls.
Pros: Once he’s in rectangle #1 his units will circle the whole base going one after the other on the closest target. As long as they are not attacked and drawn in rectangle #2 by the Archer Queen they will continue fighting in rectangle #1. This makes them an easy target for defense towers in rectangle #2.
NOTE: Place your Archer Queen in rectangle #1 as she can fire from distance, forcing the enemies to break the wall in order to reach her. If they do that, they will advance in the next rectangle without taking the full circle. Barbarian King, Clan Castel troops, and Skeletons (from Skeleton Traps) will jump the fence in order to engage the enemy, so the fight will be maintained in the previous rectangle.
Cons: This strategy is not the best one for wars. The difference is that in wars the enemy can scout you before engaging. Using Jump Spell or Earthquake Spell will create a path straight to the heart of your base.
2. Clash of Clans strategies: attack
In general, I saw two main tactics for attacking. First one is to scatter your troops in more than 3 places around the enemy camp. The idea is to attack simultaneously from different positions. The second one is to concentrate your attack on one or two points. This will grant you a bigger force to hit and penetrate the defense. I will go with the second scenario.
Why: Because when you hit in one point, you hit hard. All units having the same target means that that target will fall fast.
Pros: There is the advantage of impacting most of you troops when you are using the aid spells. The spells cannot contain all or most of the units in battle if they are scattered. Also if you use Healers you will benefit more of their abilities if the soldiers are gathered.
Cons: All troops in one place means all enemy defense towers are concentrating their firepower in one place. That place! So your troops might take the full hit from Mortars and other mass destruction weapons.
3. Clash of Clans strategies: evolution
For a fast development, I recommend you to concentrate on protecting your resources rather than protecting your Town Hall.
Why: Gathering resources will allow you to increase your building’s level, research new abilities for your units in the Laboratory and upgrade your walls faster.
Pros: Money means power and this game makes no exception. More resources mean that you can evolve at an accelerated pace without waiting weeks to gather supplies in order to have enough for an upgrade.
Cons: In order to gather as many resources as possible you will have to concentrate on attacking the enemy’s Storages. Not their Town Halls. This means that in some battles if your opponent is strong enough you will fail to get that first star that brings you the victory and the trophies. As a consequence, your League rank might drop so the Loot Bonus will decrease as well. Don’t panic, having a low League rank is not necessary a bad thing. It means weaker opponents, to attack and to defend against ;). Some players care so little about the trophies and their League rank that they entice you to go after their Town Hall instead of their resources. To do this they leave their Town Hall unprotected, outside the walls (see above picture).
