Whether you fly often or once every ten years, some aspects of flying remain the same. Probably the seats are not very comfortable, you feel dehydrated during the flight, the person next to you “takes control of the armrest” and many other problems of this kind. But how many do you actually know about airplane flights? Find out how dirty the planes are and what are the reasons why the flights have delays from the below list. Things that flight attendants won’t tell you.
1. Boarding agents have more power than you imagine
While you wait in the boarding area, gate personnel needs to be careful about any suspicious thing. They may refuse to embark intoxicated people or even change your seat on the plane. This doesn’t happen very often, but it’s a possibility.
2. Flight attendants only get paid after the airplane departs
Even if they “check-in” when they arrive at the airport, flight attendants are only paid after the plane takes off the track. So they hate even more than passengers when delays occur.
3. Most things on the plane are cleaned less often than you imagine
Flight attendants should be milestones in this case. You will probably not see any of them drinking coffee on the plane. The reason is simple. The water used to prepare the drinks (coffee or tea) comes from a tank on the plane. The cleaning frequency is a mystery even to flight attendants. Also, the trays you lower from the front seat are rarely wiped and sanitized. No one bothers to do that, even if they are used as a “pillow”, to relax the legs, to change the children, to eat on them and much more. The safest thing is to have some disinfectant napkins with you.
4. Flight attendants use various “tricks” during a flight
If you get into the toilet and find a coffee bag, don’t worry, no one forgot it. Flight attendants use coffee because it absorbs the bad smell. They also use vodka or gin to disinfect different surfaces as airplanes are not supplied with many cleaning products.
5. Most of the time, the real reason for the delay or cancellation of a flight is not stated
Bad weather can cause delays. Not just the bad weather from where you take off or where you land, but the difficult weather conditions anywhere on the road. Also, flights have a minimum mandatory number of crew members who need to be present to take off. Thus, if there are delays on other flights, flight attendants will no longer arrive on scheduled flights. Another reason is that cabin crew personnel might reach the maximum number of hours they can work in one day – 16. To prevent this kind of events there are flight attendants on “standby” in the airport. More rarely, but there are situations of this kind, the delays are due to terrorist threats and safety issues. In these situations, the company will tell you that mechanical problems have occurred.
6. Flight attendants sleep in secret cabins
Flight attendants are required to take a number of breaks during flights longer than six hours. Therefore, there is a door leading to a secret room with bunk beds for them to rest in breaks. The door is not always hidden, but it takes a key to enter.
7. It is against the rules to take pictures or shoot the personnel inside the plane
The reason is simple: any online information can be used to copy staff uniform, to analyze the aircraft structure and other details that can be used by malicious people.
8. The food on the plane is not good
Everyone knows that airplane food has never had a good reputation. Because of the altitude, the taste buds “numb” and the tastes are no longer so pronounced. In order to “remedy” this more salt and sugar are added.
9. Cabin crew is very well trained in case of medical emergencies
They are trained to use first aid kits and perform resuscitation maneuvers and Heimlich maneuvers. However, for more serious cases, a doctor must be looked for if there is one on board. If there is not, then there is a phone number that connects them to a doctor who will assist them until the plane lands.
10. Turbulence is dangerous if you are on a plane, but it is almost impossible to collapse it
There is a reason why flight attendants recommend wearing the seatbelt all the time. Even on a sunny day, the turbulence may suddenly appear. This can make you hit the ceiling or walls, resulting in broken bones or worse. However, even if it causes panic, turbulence can not collapse the planes. They are designed to withstand extreme turbulence. The wings can bend up to 90 degrees!
